Left Nostril Breathing (Chandra Bhedana)

If you want to decrease your heart rate, your mind rate, or are having trouble sleeping, I’m going to tell you about a breathing technique that may help you achieve these results. I’ve already covered The Physiological Sigh; today, it’s about SINGLE nostril breathing. 

Single left nostril breathing directs the flow of oxygen to the right hemisphere of your brain, turning the parasympathetic (relax) system on.

  1. Take your right hand and block off your right nostril

  2. Gently, take a long, slow inhale through your left nostril

  3. Gently, exhale, long, slow, and completely

  4. REPEAT

With each exhale, feel yourself relax a little deeper.
