Mirror Therapy

Using mirror therapy we create a reflective illusion for the affected limb to trick the brain into thinking movement is occurring without pain and to create positive visual feedback. For me my right arm has CRPS, my right arm would go behind the mirror and my left arm went in front of the mirror. I would look at the mirror and move my left arm. This would trick my brain into thinking I was exercising my left through artificial visual feedback. Mirror therapy increases cortical and spinal motor excitability possibly through the mirror neuron system.
